Responsible Mining
Where gold comes from, and how it was produced, matters as much as the gold itself.
Gold from small and medium-scale mining in West Africa is closely watched, and rightly so. International buyers and refiners expect responsible-sourcing checks in line with the OECD Due Diligence Guidance, and a producer who cannot account for where its gold came from is of little use to them.
Prest Gold is set up the other way round. Traceability is not something we add at the end: it shapes how we choose sites, how we pay, what we record and how we treat the people and land around us.
Our approach
Our gold comes from sites we work ourselves or with partners we know, on ground we have visited and assessed. Every source is identified and recorded. We do not accept gold from sellers we cannot identify, or material we cannot trace back to a site.
Payments are made by bank transfer into named accounts, never in cash. This is a deliberate choice: it leaves a record of every transaction and every counterparty, and removes the anonymity that makes informal gold trading so hard to audit.
For every lot we record its source, site, weight, tested purity and value. Combined lots are assayed and documented again, and every shipment travels with the paperwork Nigerian law requires. The trail from ground to buyer is unbroken and can be rebuilt at any point.
Our sites are run by our own trained teams, with dedicated operations, security and logistics roles. Safe working is planned into every task, protective equipment is standard, and anyone on site can stop work they believe is unsafe.
Mining supports livelihoods in the areas where it happens, yet host communities often see too little of the value it creates. We aim to change that through local hiring, fair agreements with landowners, restoring worked ground, and support for health, water, education and youth in the places we operate.
One rule sits behind every purchase, every shipment and every partnership we enter.
